Dear Friends and Supporters,

My running for Ironhouse Sanitary District (ISD) is not about me, but rather it’s about the making sure the rate payer abuse stops while financial responsibility begins. It's time for ISD to become better stewards of the people’s money and the only way to ensure this occurs is to vote out the incumbents and to ensure complete transparency going forward. We need leaders who want to serve the people, not continue to sit on the board because of the generous perks which I believe are excessive and need to be eliminated.

I hope that after visiting my website, I will have earned your vote this November. If you have any questions or concerns, you may always reach out to me at anytime.

Thank you for the support,

Michael Burkholder

My Ballot Statement

I am running for Ironhouse Sanitary District because I am concerned with the direction the District has headed over the last few years. Each year, rate payers are hit with a rate increase without any explanation or recourse. Rate payers deserve to have access to clear and accurate information regarding any rate increases while the District could better utilize its reserves to potentially reduce rate increases from occurring. I love my community and my promise to the rate payers is that I will work to be a good steward of your money and will work with the business community to create a welcoming atmosphere that will bring business to Oakley and the Bethel Island area. I would be honored to receive your vote for Ironhouse Sanitary District Director.

Did You know

  • In June of 2012, ISD raised rates $26 to a total of $618. In 2005, rate payers paid just $300 annually.
  • Since 1999/2000, rate payers have had a rate increase each year.
  • The current Board Members have medical benefits available to them that range from $625 to $1,588.
  • The total ISD Board compensation
is $94,000 according to the Contra Costa County Grand Jury. To put that in perspective, the Oakley City Council compensation is just $28,000.

  • ISD Executive Director and six senior staff receive a monthly car allowance to get to and from work each day?

  • The ISD Board took $2.5 million of rate payer money to pay off their pension obligation in order to switch to a much higher fund. That is $2.5 million that could have helped lower rates.
